Bonds
The South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPSE) operates a secondary bond market. Here existing bonds are traded on the SPSE through a licensed intermediary. Existing bonds can also be traded directly between bondholders.
Most bond issuers will advertise their primary bond offerings in the daily newspapers. Trading in these already issued bonds will involve placing an order with a licensed broker or dealer should an investor wish to invest in or sell bonds through the SPSE.
Under the SPSE Business Rules, all debt instruments and promissory notes guaranteed by the government shall be deemed to be listed. The same is extended to the Reserve Bank of Fiji Notes and Tradeable Term Deposits.
The main issuers of bonds in Fiji include the Government and statutory authorities. Recent bond issuers include the Government, Fijian Holdings Ltd, the Housing Authority of Fiji and the Fiji Development Bank.
